Buying a TV? Understand the jargon

Buying a new height-definition television can be intimidating. You need to figure out your budget, the right size screen and which fabricator to go with. And then there's the jargon.

You shouldn't need a geek-to-English dictionary to make an educated purchase. Instead, consider this following glossary of common TV tech terms:

1080p : Almost all HDTVs today are 1080p-wherewithal a waiting televisions.  This means the TV is capable of displaying up to 1,920 horizontal pixels (shallow dots) by 1,080 vertical pixels, refreshed "progressively," opposed to the older "interlaced" method of swiftly alternating between even and odd lines to display the video image. TV stations don't broadcast in 1080p (or "Full HD") status, but Blu-ray movies and many video games support this top-of-the-line resolution.

120Hz : 120 Hertz technology helps unbroken out fast motion on LCD TVs, so the moving objects won't look blurry. Some LCD TVs have 240Hz technology, which are pricier and crisper. Before spending bread on this feature, see how a regular LCD TV looks while showing fast motion objects.
