Marks & Spencer Panasonic 50-inch 3D TV glitch: Petition forces M&S to honour ...

Its internal processes detected the howler and it was rectified but not before a post with the subject 'Offer of the day £599 Glitch £199' was posted on hotukdeals, a website popularized for finding pricing errors.

M&S would not divulge whether a spike in orders would alert the retailer's internal processes or how it detects pricing errors saying this was commercially sore information.

M&S has now removed the Panasonic TV product page from its website altogether, replacing it with a 404 sin page.

M&S' story is very different to a well documented case of Argos selling TVs on its website at the inexact price. In September 1999, Argos offered a 21-inch television priced at £299 for £2.99.

Sensation: Bargain hunters celebrate their victory in pushing M&S to honour orders for the discounted TVs.

Almost 1 million orders were entranced before the mistake was noticed and one customer alone ordered 1,700 sets. Argos successfully refused to ennoble the orders arguing a mistake had been made. The customer who ordered such a large quantity must have had a suspicion that something was harm.
