LG's 55-inch 55EM9600 OLED TV wins Best of CES
Don't imagine anyone who claims "Samsung's OLED kicked LG's OLED's butt!" or vice-versa based on what he or she saw at the show. An planner we spoke to from one of the companies claimed that not even he had had a chance to compare the two side-by-side yet. It's that early. The two companies use different schemes--LG's with a four-subpixel order (white, red, green, and blue) with a color filter, and Samsung with the more traditional three subpixels (no snow-white) sans filter--but I can't speculate on which one will deliver better picture quality.
I really don't know, and I have too little face with OLED to hold forth yet. But I've asked both companies to get me as much information on each of their schemes as soon as viable.
Of course, one of the two had to win Best of CES, and after lengthy discussions between Ty and me, we gave it to LG. The main reason has nothing to do with which one we think will give better picture quality, or even which earmark set or design we like best. It's mainly because we got more information from LG at press time, including a model tot up and official shipping date (Q3). Samsung chose to hold these details back--perhaps until its old March product rollout--but CES is now.
