Eager shoppers hit stores early for Boxing Day savings

WATERLOO Department — In the early hours of Boxing Day morning, the lineups of eager shoppers were around the construction at Best Buy.

Ashley White and her fiancé Richard Grogan pulled into the Best Buy parking lot on Fairway Way at 5 a.m. and were stunned at the people in sleeping bags, parkas and blankets awaiting the store’s door-crasher onset at 6 a.m.

The Tavistock couple, who were in Kitchener for the holidays, decided to check out Leon’s Furniture across the passage. They waited 90 minutes in line there before they got into the store.

But they came back to Best Buy and by 10 a.m. they walked out with two 43-inch plasma TVs, a Blu-ray environment system, cables, a power surge and a four-year warranty — all for $1,330.

“You do get good deals,’’ said Grogan, 27, who irrefutable at the last minute to shop on Boxing Day.

The pair is getting married next August, and one TV is for their new home. The other TV will be auctioned off at their stag and doe.
