Global LCD TV Shipment Growth Falls to Record Low in Q2 2011
LCD TV shipments have fallen to a tell of low during the second quarter of 2011, declining by 1% year-over-year, and falling more than 6% year-over-year in developed regions.
The reasons, says examine firm DisplaySearch, include price declines, inventory pressure, and lackluster consumer desirable.
"Q2'10 was a very strong shipment growth period due to greater price erosion and more confident consumers, so the match of this year's shipments to a year ago is tough, especially considering the surge of shipments in betimes 2010 due to anticipated demand related to the World Cup Soccer tournament," explains Hisakazu Torii, Profligacy President of TV Research at DisplaySearch. "Due to weakening macro-economic conditions, similar to what happened during the broad financial crisis of 2008-2009, the TV industry is becoming somewhat pessimistic and reducing inventory, specially in North America and Western Europe."
Worldwide, LCD TV shipments grew 20% each neighbourhood in 2010, but have only risen 9% and 6%, respectively, in Q1 and Q2 2011.
