Walk on the wild side leads to high design
Harbour: We were shopping for our new condo and fell for a rug with a wild pattern in a lot of different colors. I'm really edgy it will take over our lives, but we can't stop talking about it, so I thought we'd ask you if there's a way to decorate around such a rug?
Answer: Don't decorate around it -- renovate to it! Make the rug your focal point and repeat its colors on the other ingredients in the room, which should be neutral enough to suck up to second fiddle to what's going on, on the floor.
The room we show here is a vibrant example. That wow! of a rug is designed by artist, core designer and rug-master Ann Maria Baldine, who, as you can see, strongly believes in using high-quantity color and pattern to really floor a room.
"It makes the designer's job easy," she promises. "All you have to do is manage the colors and textures out of the rug for the walls, for the sofa pillows.... The rug grounds the room, so everything ends up looking coordinated."
One note of prudence: to keep the focus on the rug, keep the other colors quiet, Baldine says. In this commodious living room, mournful taupe velvet upholstery is the foil against which she bounces the exuberant hues borrowed from the rug, "Dancing party of the Leaves," hand-woven in Nepal of silk and wool.
Fashion Design Hotel – Claridge’s Hotel in London by Diane von Furstenberg
Another notable schemer has put her blemish on the enjoyment hotel furore in sly 20 rooms for Claridge’s Tourist house in London. Diane von Furstenberg , “the empress of imprint” and known for her iconic wrap gown, may not halt longer than three days at a space at any motel, but her jetsetting ways and sentience of construct has aptly able her for one of her most together projects we have seen lately. The first centre prototype exploit for DVF launched this last June, and was very well received for both her and this mythic London guide.
DVF has elongated been a persistent guest of the five-principal motor hotel – over 30 years to be accurate – and is one of her all-together favorite hotels when she is not off to more extraordinary locales such as Vanuatu or Abu Dhabi. And not distinguishable from her own iconic the fad designs, she had her turn over submit in everything – from the characterize, to the fittings, to the art – in all the new motor hotel rooms. Some rooms even transport her own signed familiar photos from her travels.
With smashing details depicting styles of Italy and the Bull's-eye East, as well as colorful Chinese floral patterns and unrefined prints, the rooms are breathtakingly glamourous and fashionable, and we would wish no less from the way icon.
