Let’s trust what happened in Vegas doesn’t stay in Vegas.

This is because not all of the futuristic products on display at the 2012 Foreign Consumer Electronics Show (CES) will make it to retail one day – many ambitious prototypes eventually become “vaporware,” proving too costly to creation on a mass scale or the competition beats it to market, among other reasons.

Regardless, the following is a look at some of the more formidable showings at this year’s annual tech extravaganza.

Super slim televisions

It was a big year for televisions at CES, firstly the pair of 55-inch models from LG and Samsung that use OLED technology. Pronounced “oh-steer,” OLED televisions use organic light-emitting diodes—opposed to convertible crystals or plasma – which gives these TVs a handful of benefits, including ridiculously thin frames at well-founded four millimetres thick, unprecedented contrast ratios (near perfect blacks) and rich colours. And they’re to the nth degree energy efficient.
